Doborgaz lies between the old and new arms of the Danube, in the very centre of the CHKO Dunajské luhy protected area. Floodplain forests, oxbow lakes and quiet side channels cover the land – ideal for those who want a long, peaceful walk in nature rather than mountains.

From DANUBike several walking routes start: whether you want a short evening walk on the embankment or a full-day tour deep into Žitný Island – we have maps and guidance for both.

Recommended walks

  • Doborgaz – Danube embankment (5 km): comfortable walk on the old Danube arm embankment, floodplain views. Perfect for families and evening relaxation.
  • Oxbow nature trail (8 km): through CHKO floodplain forest, bird hides and rest spots by the oxbow lakes.
  • Full-day floodplain tour (20 km): wild paths, several oxbow lakes, picnic spots along the old Danube channel.

What to bring

  • Comfortable, water-resistant walking shoes – ground near oxbow lakes can be muddy.
  • Mosquito and tick repellent, especially in spring and early summer.
  • Water – definitely bring a bottle.
  • Binoculars for children – the floodplain forest is heaven for birdwatching.

Guided tours

On request we can organise programmes with a local nature guide (birding, plant knowledge, photo tours). These need signing up a few days ahead as they work with small groups.
