EuroVelo 6 is one of Europe's most beautiful long-distance cycle routes: it starts in France on the Atlantic and follows the Danube to the Black Sea. The Žitný Island section is among the most varied – quiet Slovak villages, wild side channels and oxbow lakes, vast floodplain forests and one of Europe's largest river hydro plants.

From the DANUBike courtyard you can roll straight onto the cycle route. Every guest can use our lockable bike storage, repair corner, basic tools and pump free of charge. Everyone who stays with us can get a detailed map with recommended local loops.

The cycle map layer shows bike routes around Doborgaz (Dobrohošť), zoomed to the marked location.

Popular routes from our house

  • Doborgaz loop (15 km, 1–2 hours): flat, family-friendly route between the old and new arms of the Danube, along the embankments. Perfect for children and beginners.
  • Gabčíkovo hydro plant (40 km, half day): to the Gabčíkovo hydro plant embankment – one of Europe's largest river hydro plants up close. We recommend a picnic spot too.
  • Ferry tour (60 km, half–full day): via the Vojka nD.–Kyselica ferry to the other side of Danube, or connect to the cycle route on the other bank via the Hamuliakovo bike ferry.

Bike rental and repairs

A limited number of bicycles are available for rent upon prior arrangement. The bikes are provided in basic configuration – no additional accessories or extras are included. Trekking and children’s bikes are available.

Minor technical issues, such as small punctures, can be handled at a basic on-site repair station. For larger repairs, we recommend a bicycle service in the nearest town.

Tour tips

During hot summer days, it is best to start your ride either early in the morning before 10:00 or later in the afternoon after 16:00, when temperatures are more pleasant and the routes are quieter.

The surrounding area can be explored on peaceful country roads and cycling paths, offering a calm atmosphere, nature, and a slower pace.
